This story begins when I was 20, when and I left NYC and the world of professional theater when I realized I didn’t want to spend a life speaking other people’s words.Read More
“Anything that involves knowing involves pain.”
Painter and teacher Javier Tapia dropped that line over Christmas Eve dinner
as we spoke about the inherent pleasures and challenges that come with with learning and teaching.
That true learning comes from pushing out of ones comfort zones.
And how the discomfort should be fought for and celebrated.
A concept that is in opposition to so many of our inherent efforts for comfort and ease.
I hope this holiday season is providing balance… and that you are able to find sweet retreat in the moments inbetween… where you can integrate the growth, you can gather yourself,
your family and friends… and your ideals and your visions for the future as we step towards 2017.

Your Golden Nugget For The Day:
The Astounding Eyes Of Rita
Brahem's bio states that he is a master at bringing out the acoustic magic which this age-old traditional Oriental lute carries inside its calabash: the musical heritage of the Arab and Islamic worlds.Brahem is a phenomenon, a concentrated mix of prolific paradoxes: he is a supremely subversive classicist; a solitary soloist, resolutely open to the world; and a "culture smuggler", a man ever inclined to venture beyond his own limits and push back musical frontiers…
How to Bring More Story Into Your Life
2016 was a hum dinger of a year. Filled with change and transformation on so many levels. On the final day of this year we will come together to call in the Soul Story of 2016, and together we will examine the magic, meaning, and lessons; but most importantly, the mythological context for the times we are living in.

We are courting mystery.
Ari said that after hearing the vision for She Rises, the revealing of a new creation story about the times we are living in.
I only know one way to court the mystery.
To listen so deeply you stop pretending there is an answer to be found
To listen so deeply you are willing to set down what you worked so hard to learn
To listen so deeply that you are willing to try something new
Such as… handing each audience member a grape before the story begins so they can taste the sweetness of life.
I usually begin each story ceremony by placing rose petals over each persons hands. But Friday night, moments before we began, I picked up the bowl of grapes. Because during these times of so many unknowns, we need to stay present to tasting the sweetness that is here.

How To Bring More Story Into your Life:
Bring a Transformation Storytelling Ceremony to your community, workplace, or school!
These community building events are perfect for rites of passage, birthdays, times of transformation or just plain fun.
During the talking back to the story section of She Rises, the storytelling event that happened this past friday, Christina said,:
“I feel liberated, I feel strong, I feel creative, I feel everything I wished for when I was little, is now possible, through that story. But it had to be here first...This [story] was a reflection of my life…and hearing this story just opened up this place of hope… I brought if from what was just my experience-- and now I am opening it up to the experience of the earth-”
This past fall I had the great pleasure of collaborating with a few epic creatures to develop a new form of storytelling… I called them storytelling ceremonies. They are part performance, part workshop, all awesome. The events excist in a classifciaction all their own: part ceremony, part storytelling, part community building...the events created through these relationships were:
- The Lover & The Beloved: explored our relationship to love
- The Story of the Witch explored the haunting legacy of the witch persecutions and how it continues to exist in our modern culture. Through this ceremony we integrated our relationship to plant wisdom
- Dragon Love was an initiation story, and took place around a fire in the woods
- The Story of The Priestess: Mary Magdalene: explored the emergence of the feminine
- She Rises: A New Creation Story For a New Time: turns the myth that we are killing the great mother earth on its head and explores an empowering story about young girl earth standing up for herself in a wild rites of passage.
People continue to inspire me with how they use story ceremonies to call in a playful and engaging out of the box ways to celebrate their life.
- Gloria brought her 16 year old’s birthday party to the initiation story event
- Tesa called a Soul Story circle for a friend who was going through a life passage
Whether through a soul story circle, or a transformation storytelling event, the world is your oyster re: how you want to walk in beauty and celebrate and enjoy your community.
