I'm going to stop filling your inbox.
We did it. We made it to the last email of the advent newsletter!
This is the last time you will hear from me for awhile (unless you want to hear more)and I’ll be returning to my regularly scheduled 1x per every so month newsletters.
To honor the transition of the season I am offering a sweet special:
50% off of Soul Stories that are ordered between now and midnight Jan 1st.
If you have not received a Soul Story before and want to learn more, go to www.medicinestories.com
Meanwhile… Let’s get personal.
I began this newsletter back in the day when my friend Julie asked me to keep her up to date on the environmental news that mattered most. I was producing the Green Channel at Current TV, and each week I sent out a little summery.
A lot has changed between then and now, and I’m grateful for those of you who have stayed along for the ride as it transitioned into another ride altogether, and those who have joined along the way.
When I sat down in early December to put out a newsletter I realized you don’t need more information. You need to be nourished. You need to be inspired. I hope the newsletters that followed felt like opening little gifts (and thank you to everyone who wrote to say that they did!) (and if you missed the party you can catch all the posts here).
Meanwhile…When I was but a wee little thing in one of those critical moments of decision making, as I looked out at how I wanted to use this life force energy of mine, I knew I wanted to play a part in the great shift toward sustainable living on this planet. The question emerged:
Until we can heal ourselves, how can we heal the planet?
That inquiry has led me on an adventurous path that I’m not going to bore you with right now, but plays a crucial role in why I turned toward the magic of storytelling to bring people closer…to themselves, their community, to their planet.
This is what Sacred Storytelling looked like in 2016.
From Symbiosis to Burning Man, From the Oakland Zoo to around a fire under the Redwood Groves, This was a year of adventure in storytelling. The Story Of The Witch, She Rises, A retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and an exploration of Mary Magdalene…all were born this year.
The Story Ceremony was born when Kelsey and I decided to engage with a wild adventure of combining storytelling with herbalism as we reclaimed The Story of the Witch. I thought we’d be lucky if 13 people showed up. We had to change venues when over 70 people purchased tickets. We wove the act of honoring the sacred with the act of honoring the role of story as sacred, and in so doing claimed a more empowered way of living in our lives, making meaning of the times we are living, reconnecting to the wisdom available to us in plants, and joining together in community.
Thank you to everyone who stepped in and joined me on this wild adventurous path of creation. Your engagement, participation, and adventurous spirit to explore the unknown with me have forged a path of creation. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
WANT TO KEEP THE PARTY GOING? JOIN ME ON PATREON
I’ll be sending stories, articles, and more goodies along the way.
BECOME A MONTHLY SUPPORTER - I JUST launched on patreon (that means one of you might be the very person to join that community!) I've dedicated my life to seeking and amplifying the stories of the new paradigm. Many of my films, essays, and stories are offered as a gift. Would you consider becoming a monthly contributor to support my work? As little as $2/month goes a long way when combined with many others.
"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance." ~Aristotle
Creating is a collaborative act, and today I am reaching out to invite you to join me on the great ride. I love Patreon because it creates a new way for everyone to become patrons of the arts in a way that makes the most sense to them. I have grappled with how to make the events I produce affordable to all walks of life while also creating a sustainable financial model that pays artists a living wage. And I’m going to be honest. The model I used in 2016 wasn’t sustainable. And yet the drive to create, the drive to give beauty, meaning, nourishment, and a safe place for reflection during these wild times won every battle with security this year. It felt worth it to create a leap of faith. And now I’m ready to step up my game and offer even more this year, and Patreon is one of the solutions. You can learn more about it here, and discover how you can have an impact about what kinds of stories go out into the world, get nourished on a regular basis through the kind of content you most desire (such as creativity exercises, webcasts, and more).
Untill we meet again,
(and happy new year!! Grab that new year offer if it tantalizes you!)
