Listening is an art form.
When I was studying acting at the neighborhood playhouse in NYC my voice coach advised my class to take up another career if we could be happy doing anything else.
Upon hearing I’d been accepted into one of the more prestigious acting schools in NYC, a civil rights lawyer who I deeply admired told me, “It isn’t enough.”
I listened to both of them.
They were both right.
But I wish I had also listened to the truth that was living in my heart.
forgive my dance with trite.
It would seem 80% of life is being able to distinguish the source of what you are listening to. Is it someones longing? Their fear? Hopes?
If you don’t listen for the layers it can all sound the same... as truth.
The thing is, my voice coach might have been right.
There are easier ways to be happy then pursuing a life in the arts.
But why be stuck with happy—
When you can live a life filled with ecstasy.
Ecstasy can keep you up at night…nudging you with new ideas.
Ecstasy nourishes you, even when you are hungry and tired.
When you are ecstatic about what you are doing, excel spreadsheets, taxes, online marketing and other chores that might bore you with tedium…become bearable.
Because you’re hanging with ecstasy.
Ecstasy comes with doing what is in your soul song. When the DNA of your soul finds its way to true north, and you are giving your unique medicine and magic to the world.
Ecstasy hangs out in kitchens, at pet stores, and at stop lights.
I just finished the curriculum for a course I’m teaching, Myth, Magic and Medicine: Storytelling For A new Paradigm. The inperson workshop began last week. I’m pretty ecstatic. The online version begins January 4th (there is still space in the course).
